On the road again!

Well the day has finally come to head west. Our plan is to try to make it to Nashville and call it a day. After we did some last minute packing we headed over to my Dad and Joanne's house to pick up the pop-up camper. We arrived there at 7:15 and after a few good byes and a couple of pictures we were off and heading to I-40 West. We will actually take that same highway all the way to Texas before heading north to the Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. It would take us 4 days to get there and to be honest we were not looking forward to the first two days of driving. It was going to be a lot of hours behind the wheel in very familiar territory. Anyway it has to be done before things can start to look different so we got busy putting the miles behind us. We had little to no traffic which was so nice, especially on a holiday weekend. We made it to Nashville and I still felt good so we kept pushing onward. Finally after 12 hours we ended up at  a KOA campground in Memphis. I have been to this campground twice before and the last year we actually camped in the exact same spot. We actually toured Memphis last year so on this day we just set up camp and tried to get our camping rhythm together. It usually takes us a week to get our act together and this night would be no different. We ran around and continually spent time looking for things that we needed and we knew they were in the car but some how their exact location eluded us. Lyn heated up a dinner that we had the night before and it was delicious. After cleaning up a couple came over and admired our vintage camper. They were on their way back from a trip out west and had only two days left before they had to go back to work. As it turns out they both loved craft beer and invited us over to their campsite for a couple of craft beers they had picked up along the way. They were camping in a T@B camper which is a pretty cool over sized teardrop camper. After talking awhile the mosquitoes started getting the best of us so we all called it a night. When we arrived at the campsite it was 91 degrees but by now had dropped down to 74. Not exactly cool but it felt good all the same. We had a great nights sleep and woke up about 6:15 the next morning. I cooked breakfast for Lyn and I and then while Lyn was taking a shower I broke camp down and started packing up. Much to her surprise when she got back I had everything packed up and even had the camper hooked to the back of the car. While I was packing up I met a man who was two campsites away who had not one but two BMW motorcycles with side cars. I asked what kind of trip he was on and he told me that they were on day two of a trip to Alaska! He also told me that the other person riding the other motorcycle and side car was his granddaughter! As it turns out she bought his original BMW and sidecar rig and he built himself another one. They are planning to be back by the end of August but he did not seem concerned if it took longer. I told him I was also living the dream but mine was in a Prius and a 1964 pop-up camper ha ha! He just laughed.....what else could he do. Anyway we headed out about 8 and drove all the way to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It took about 6.5 hours and we arrived at camp it was hot and about to rain. We hurried around and got the camper set up and beat the rain by about 5 minutes. After it stopped raining we set up the rest of camp and decided to head downtown and see the river walk. Of course we had Jasper with us and he loved it. He had people admiring him and geese to chase all in the same place! We had dinner right on the river and Jasper just hung with us and acted cool as only he can do. After dinner we headed back to our campsite. Tomorrow we are headed to Amarillo Texas. It is only 4 hours away which seems super short to us at this point. We plan on spending the night there and then heading to Colorado on the 4th. Hopefully it cools off a little before we go to bed tonight. Things should start to get more interesting the further we get from home. Thanks for following along!
