Pescadero

The temperature went down to about 52 and we all slept really well. Even Jasper stayed covered in his blanket. We got up at 4 for a quick bathroom break and then went back to sleep until 8. Feeling good about today! We are staying put and enjoying a two day break in this beautiful place. I made breakfast and by the time we were ready to head out to explore it was already 10 AM. We went to the camp store to check it out and also get a feel for this campground. On the way we saw camping cabins. Camping Yurts and an actual lodge. Everything was maintained meticulously. The landscaping was awesome and Lyn took lots of pictures. The store was the nicest camp store that I have ever been in and after a little window shopping we asked the cashier if she was going to spend the day here and had a dog what would she do. She did not hesitate, she told us that she would go two miles north and visit the lighthouse and then we could stop at a beach that allowed dogs. But she said before that you need to go to the town of Pescadero. It was about ten miles up the road and she said it was a quaint little town. But that's not the reason we should go….. The reason we should go was that today was their “Barn Sale”! This was literally a once a year one day event and it was totally something to see. On this day everyone that wants to participate brings out their goods and sells them. So in a way it was a big town yard sale. Some people sold right in front of their houses while others went to designated areas. She said it was something to see and it it sounded great to us. We drove up highway 1 and enjoyed the great views as we passed the beaches and the light house. After about 10 miles we made a right and soon we were in the town and saw lots of cars trying to park. We found a parking place and got out to take a look. This Barn sale was awesome in just about every way. People literally had tables out in front of their houses selling stuff. It was a very eclectic one minute you were looking at a hubcap the next minute you were looking at WWII items. They also had areas set up for people to sell their stuff that lived further out of town. The businesses also had sales going on. The town had a total feel of Stars Hollow on the Gilmore girls. (Yes I have seen every episode ha ha!) They even were selling lunch at the town hall to raise money to fix it up. We spent several hours just looking around and we actually did buy a few things. I got a Rand Mcnally book that was a 1967 tour of the National parks. It was $2 dollars and I felt our 1964 camper could use something from the same time period other than me ha ha. Lyn got some clothes for only a few dollars. We got a snack at the bakery and then went in and had lunch at the town hall to support the cause. It was pet friendly so we got to take Jasper in for lunch as well. Love this place. After about 5 hours of totally enjoying this relaxing town we headed back to see the lighthouse and beaches. We stopped at the lighthouse and took a few pictures and then headed down to the beach. Lots of families playing and just taking it all in. The waves were huge even close to the shore so nobody was actually swimming beyond about knee deep. We sat for awhile and then decided to try a local brewery right across the highway and had a local IPA. Very relaxing. After that we headed back and Lyn fixed another great dinner. After dinner we decided to go back to the same beach and watch the sunset. We got there about 8 and it set at 8:34. It was beautiful in every sense of the word. The sky lit up in orange colors and as soon as it dipped below the horizon the sky behind us turned purple. Surprisingly only about 20 people were with us at the beach for this event. We felt totally relaxed and in tune with California now. One of us has changed our dance. Not sure which one but either way we appreciated it. We went back to camp and went to bed around 9:30. Tomorrow we will head north to the town of Petaluma. It is about 38 miles north of San Francisco and is only about 2.5 hours away. What a great day!

At the campground.
